After receiving his Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver School of Law in 1975 he served as a criminal prosecutor for 3 years as an Assistant District Attorney in Santa Fe and throughout the State of NM as an Assistant Attorney General.

Moving to private practice in 1978, Dennis became a founding partner in the law firm 'Montoya, Murphy, Kauffman, & Garcia'. Where he practiced criminal and civil law in Santa Fe and northern New Mexico. Several of the published opinions of Mr. Murphy's cases can be viewed here.

Mr Murphy has the highest attorney rating 'AV' issued by Martindale-Hubbell (the nationally recognized peer review publication used by the legal community), He has served as the President of the NMTLA (New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association) 2000-2001 and has served on the NMTLA Board of Directors since 1991 and as the New Mexico delegate to ATLA (American Trial Lawyers Association) from 1998-2000.
